Have you ever felt frustrated or overwhelmed by trying all sorts of online income streams? 😭 Did you feel like you’re not getting anywhere or you have not idea what you’re doing? 😵 Then I hope this post helps.
Passive income it’s a sweet promise, especially for creators, because we can’t stop dreaming of the day we’ll be our own bosses, free to create and build what we want. I don’t mean to sound negative but; stop trying every single online income stream just because!
As there are tons of content related to passive income online, and lots of make money online bowshits, I’m not going to do another post about the 100.000 ways you can do it.
I think it would be more helpful to you to know about my mistakes and general misconceptions so you can get it together and finally make things happen. I want to share this, so you don’t end up losing so much time and start making the right questions.
First, I wanted to mention a few things coming up too often on the internet that might confuse people or make them set a false expectation.
Do it and sleep on it.
Sound amazing, just the idea of making money while you’re asleep, and it’s true; finding out you sold something or suddenly have lots of followers while you were comfy in your bed is a fantastic feeling, but it happens when you show up and work for it.
Unfortunately, a bunch of pricks started selling it like foolproof income streams; “Do this, this, and after that, and in a month you’ll be earning a 1000$” And because people are not stupid, we are now afraid of been scammed. 🤬
Of course, this angers me, not just because I fell for it a few times, but because these people are playing with people’s fears, hopes, and often vulnerabilities.
Let me tell you; I meet people that built 6 figure online businesses while being true to themselves, and they never had to lie or make false promises to anyone.
It doesn’t matter how much money you need to become financially free; the only important thing is you don’t need to be scammy to get there.
Oh! the sweet promise of a passive income! “do this, and you’re all set.” The fact is that it takes more time to work on relationships with possible customers because you don’t get just to show up once and get paid for it. Am I being mean? 👾
If you search for people who genuinely get enough monthly passive income, you’ll see most of them already have a strong presence on the internet, might be an authority, or have lots of proven experience on the subject.
It doesn’t mean you won’t get there; it just means you build it over time.
Let’s see how It really works; billions of users are on the internet, but your possible audience is not specifically searching for you! Just because you’re so great!
The internet actually works differently; It is you who find them, and you put your product, art, or service in front of them. How? Use the algorithms, advertising, collaborations; you get to be creative.
It takes time to learn new skills, make mistakes, learn from them, and see the results. The beauty of it is that it’s yours; seen something you build growing and finding your audience will fillet you with pride and joy, and it’s worth it! 💪
To summarize, if you want it enough and enjoy learning new skills, there’s no reason for you to give up; only have your patience well-fed. When things get cloudy, remember the internet runs so fast and furious you’ll get there in half the time you would on a traditional way. 🙌🙌🙌
It’s a shortcut
This is by far the worst one; there’s no shortcut in life. It’s not magic; It’s the 1.2 trillion searches worldwide per year and the 4 billion internet users that makes it seem like a shortcut because building an online business is so much easier and faster compared to the traditional way… if you know what you’re doing of course. 👻
The truth is that 60% of people will search for reviews or opinions before buying, 40% will not trust you anyway, and 67% don’t trust ads. This bombs you down? Knowing the facts is not negative thinking; you’ll see why. 😎
Do you remember how sales used to work?
A bunch of annoying people trying to convince you to buy buy buy. Sadly, some of this logic and practices have transferred into the internet; however, remember the algorithms are constantly changing, searching to give people what they want and what they need, avoiding this irritating fraudulent type of content.
“That means it’s more and more difficult?”
No, it means it’s important for you to be honest, have a clear strategy behind and set realistic goals so you don’t end up self-sabotaging. Then the algorithms will see you have value to offer and help you stand out. 🌟
There has been no better time to start a brand based on yourself than now; people more than ever want to buy from other people instead of big brands, and they want to know the content creators, artists, and minds behind it.
You can take advantage of this opportunity without lying or been scammy because people are not stupid; they’ll find out if you’re lying, and to be honest, does it worth it?
So, be true to yourself, put in the work, bring value to your audience, and eventually, it will pay off. 🎁
It’s too good to be true.
No, it’s not. How it’s going to be too good to be true if I’m learning new skills, working in my free time and weekends, doing research, finding out new ways to bring value to my customers, testing ideas, assisting to webinars, reading, do I really need to go on?
I mean, some people can breakthrough in two months (more than sure with enough capital), but what about the rest of the mortals who don’t? Does it mean we should give up?
F%*^(@ it! I’ll never give up, and neither should you. 💪
Now, it’s essential to start seeing whatever you do or offer online as a business. No one is paying you to be there, and you already want to become your own boss, right? Then it’s a business.
It’s not too good to be true because of how the internet works now; inside the online economy, you can build a business backward. You can even start with no money by sharing what you do first, growing your audience, and then selling. Opposite to the traditional way, when you needed the team, the physical space, the idea developed and produced before going out to the world.
To end with this bit, It can seem too good to be true because, want it or not; most people are still working on the old-school frame rather than inside the online economy that holds more than half of the worldwide population in one place. There’s enough pie for everyone.
So many of them, but I don’t want to bore you, so these are the ones I think you can get the most out of.
Try everything until something works.
Newbie mistake; just try it and see what happens. Now it’s kinda obvious to me, but when I started, I was so all over the place, filling profiles on every platform that came across, trying stuff having no idea how they worked, just awful. 😵🤬🤮
It’s a waste of time and effort; choose one platform, and stick with it until it works.
Suppose you want to sell your art, for example…
…It seems logical to be on different platforms to have more presence; the truth is you’re not putting enough effort into figuring out how it works and how you can make it work in your favor because you’re too busy setting up mediocre profiles all at the same time.
Every platform works differently and serves different purposes.
If it’s for the sake of online presence, fine, but remember a new account on any platform has that initial push, just because you’re new, so if you don’t take advantage of it, what’s for?
It’s doesn’t matter to the “X” platform user if you’re not on the “Z” platform. They’re hanging out in the “X” platform anyway; master one place, and then move to the next. Baby steps! Always. ✌
In conclusion, choose one main platform… Where do you think your possible customers hang out the most?
Have no strategy behind
I don’t want to scare you with a long to-do list because there’s no reason to be overwhelmed if you go one step at a time, so this is my biggest advice;
“Create the big picture, and the steps to follow will come clear as you go.”
As a creative person, I like to go with the flow. The problem is there’s a sea of possibilities; if you don’t set goals, you might go with the flow in circles for the rest of your life. Believe me; it’s not a pretty picture been lost on the open sea, listening to an annoying voice go
“This was not where I wanted to go; what were you thinking.”
Having a strategy helps on decision making, establish your next steps, make yourself accountable, and, more importantly, It makes it real.
It’s the difference between a hobby and a business. Even if you have to trade your time for money on a 9 to 5 to survive, the fact of you building a business on the side can give a purpose to your current job; it makes it feel lighter.
There are tons of ways to do a strategy or so-called business plan that can become more like a life plan for many creators or solo-entrepreneurs.
The important thing to have in mind is that each of us is unique; you can search for good practices or examples to help, but the final result should be a lot more personal to you; do what makes sense to you.
I already mentioned in an earlier post that the biggest mistake I see in creative entrepreneurs is not having their numbers clear and not knowing where they are heading.
To give you an example, this video simplifies a lot the boring idea of a business plan. But again, I think the numbers on her board are not clear; I’m sure she decided not to cover the subject, but please don’t leave it up to luck. 🤓
Have no foundations
Midset, mindset, mindset. 🙏 You don’t want to hack the system; you don’t want to scam others; you want to have a life you feel proud of, be excited to do what you love, and build the life you want. Unfortunately, your ego might get in your way sometimes.
It’s necessary to know what you can’t control, but it’s more important to know how you react and what you are taking control of.
Personal growth, spirituality, religion, philosophy, 🧘♀️ choose the right for you and work on it because you need to grow your inner foundation before building something above it.
When I started, I tried figuring out everything by myself; I have always considered myself a loner, but I was also really stubborn and proud about looking for help 😇
A huge mistake! If you’re ahead of me, you already know it was an ego problem stopping me from investing in learning from people who already achieved what I was trying to do.
The good news is; when you’ll handle your inner blocks and frustrations, you’ll be free to move forward with a business, gain clarity, and of course, learned the value of community and support.
You get to dream big
One of my mistakes was to convince myself to stop dreaming big, somehow or because I felt lost, I decided some people just don’t get to do it.
During my architect career, there was a point where the doubts and disappointments lowered my expectations.
And because you’re a grownup now, you need to pay the bills, be responsible, and you’re expected to be more realistic. 🤮
However… Is it actually realistic for you to give up on yourself? Is it more responsible to settle for a life you know you never wanted? Being a grownup is giving up on your dreams? Or is it easier to stay and get used to the status quo?
It reminds me of a stand-up comedy I saw on Netflix, “jigsaw” by Daniel Sloss, he talks more about relationships, but do we behave the same way with our careers? Did you ever feel like you stay because the thought of admitting you don’t know what the hell you’re doing freaks you up?
Do not make the same mistakes; You do get to dream as big as you want.
It doesn’t matter if you want to have a tiny home on a cliff, a big mansion for your family, or just sharing your ideas with the world. You can! I know I said it before but
“You’re not any less special than anyone else! You deserve to make your dreams come true.”
If you’re serious about getting advantage of the online economy, and you don’t want just to scratch the surface of the online income universe.
Then, I want to share the platform I used to build the life I want; it has empowered me to embrace my passion as a business, they still help me grow as a person, and if it weren’t for this genuinely caring community, I wouldn’t be here talking to you. 🤗
Here you’ll find the knowledge, support, mentoring, and tools all relevant to build an online business from scratch.
It is a platform designed to fit your busy life; you’ll learn more than just how to be successful. You get to see how others make it through; it helps so much been surrounded by proactive, positive people.
It’s not a “quick fix” you’ll have to put in the work, but with all the knowledge and tools here, you can do it in less time and with a lot less stress.
The membership is 99$, but you can open a free account and see what’s all about; you could say, “wow 99$ a month?” the actual value is so much more than that! And you have a 100% refund if it’s not the right fit for you, so you really don’t have anything to lose.
Just remember, one of my biggest mistakes was not investing in relevant knowledge and mentoring. If you don’t find it here, that’s ok; only find yourself a community, mentoring, books, anything to keep you moving forward. 💪✌😎
If this post was on anyway helpful I’d loved to here from you! 👇
